The Innsbruck Alpenzoo is impressively and beautifully located at an altitude of 750 metres, a fact which makes it Europe’s highest themed zoo. At the foot of the Nordkette, the animals are in their natural habitat, housed in scenically impressive enclosures, some of which are even open to the visitors, and all of this with a fantastic view of Innsbruck.

Schwarzstorch Alpenzoo Innsbruck

150 animal species across 4 hectares

On a total of 4 hectares, the Alpine Zoo is home to about 2,000 alpine animals of about 150 species. The enclosures for the animals from the Alpine region are embedded in nature, and one can sense immediately that the animals feel at home here. The brown bears always welcome visitors and let the sun shine on their bellies, or bathe with apparent pleasure. The lynxes are masters of hiding in the mighty treetops, and the eagles glide majestically through the air, while the nimble ibex balance on the rocks.


Hearing the wolves howl or just watching the adorable otters, a visit to the Alpine Zoo in Innsbruck during your winter holiday is truly an amazing experience. Children are always captivated by the show stable. Watching the farm animals up close, as well as getting the chance to both feed and pet the goats and sheep is sure to warm the heart of every animal-lover.
